App Health and Servicing

The app model includes facilities to capture and publish statistics and events that occur while an app is running. This reporting will be useful in many scenarios, including the following:

• Microsoft will use this information to optimize the platform during development.
  
• Microsoft will use this information during certification testing to objectively and automatically test an app’s compliance with technical certification requirements (TCRs).
  
• App developers can use this information to understand the app model, and to debug and optimize their apps during development.
  
• After the app is published, app developers can use this information for insight into how their app is being used and to prioritize future updates.
  

Developers also will be able to add instrumentation to their apps to gather their own statistics.

The Xbox One installer system will include direct support for app updates. This support will include the ability to update the entire contents, not just executables, of an app package. This capability is intended to simplify updates and allow developers to focus on the substance, rather than the mechanics, of an update.
