Developers and gamers alike want to be sure they are playing games that have not been tampered with. Every app certified by Microsoft for use on the Xbox One console will be distributed in encrypted form, using keys controlled by Microsoft, so that tampering can be detected. Every certified app also will be issued a unique app identifier that can be used to authenticate the app package and its components. Apps are isolated from one another by default, and these apps and their data are protected by access controls. However, an app can grant access to another app by specifying the app identifier of the permitted app, enabling titles to share data across a family of related games.
For cases where a developer knowingly or unknowingly violates Microsoft policies or abuses the trust of users, Microsoft can revoke an app’s ability to be executed.
