Add or Change Marketing Information

The marketing information that you provide is used in the catalog listing for your product, and the catalog listing is common to all instances of your product.

Types of marketing information

The types of marketing information that you can modify in Xbox Developer Portal (XDP) include the following:

Title
The title or titles that you specify in this marketing metadata appear in the catalog listings for this product. This text has a maximum length of 255 characters for all versions of the title-standard, localized, and override. An override version is displayed in a single region where the alternative language is spoken.

Alternate Titles
Alternate titles are used when searching for your product in the marketplace. Alternate titles are search terms that facilitate searching for your title. For information about Search Engine Opimization (SEO) and alternate titles, see Bing Search Optimization Guidelines.

Short Title
The short title is not actually a title at all; it is a shorter version of the product description for contexts where the regular description would be too lengthy. It appears in the dropdown for selecting different editions of a game on its Store page, as well as in the Compare section, which shows the different editions of the game side-by-side. For example, the short titles of three different editions of a game might be Standard Edition, Deluxe Edition, and Ultimate Edition. The maximum length is 50 characters for all versions of the short title-standard, localized, and override. An override version is displayed in a single region where the alternative language is spoken.

Sort Title
The sort title appears online and in the Xbox marketplace. Entries are limited to 255 characters.

Voice title
Voice titles appear online and in the Xbox marketplace. Entries are limited to 255 characters.

Description
The description is the full product description. This text has a maximum length of 4000 characters for all versions of the description-standard, localized, and override. An override version is displayed in a single region where the alternative language is spoken.

Short description
Short descriptions appear online and in the Xbox marketplace and should help users understand what your game is about, what type of game it is, and what kind of gamers might enjoy playing it. Entries are limited to 500 characters.

Publisher’s name
Publisher name identifies the publisher of the product. This text has a maximum length of 255 characters for all versions of the publisher’s name-standard, localized, and override. An override version is displayed in a single region where the alternative language is spoken.

Developer studio
Developer studio identifies the development studio of the product. This text has a maximum length of 255 characters for all versions of the publisher’s name-standard, localized, and override. An override version is displayed in a single region where the alternative language is spoken.

Selecting marketing information

To make changes to marketing information for a product, or simply to view existing marketing information, begin with the following procedure.

To select the type of marketing information to change or view

  1. On the product page, click Marketing Info from the left-hand navigation menu or under Catalog & Artwork on the main page.
  2. On the Edit Marketing Info page, click the tile for the type of information that you want to view or change.
  3. Follow the instructions on the page for the specific marketing information that you are modifying.

Changing marketing information

The following procedures apply to all types of marketing information that you can configure in XDP. The messages and information that XDP displays for some types of marketing information may vary, but the steps are mostly identical across types.

To use these procedures, you first select the information that you want to change, as described in Selecting marketing information, earlier in this topic.

As you enter metadata for your product, XDP automatically saves your valid entries. You can also manually save by clicking the green Save button in the top right. However, to register your changes and make them effective, you must publish a new version. To publish a new version, see Publishing a new version of marketing information, later in this topic.

When you are done making changes, you may submit them for approval. The Approval Status at the bottom of the page will show whether you have submitted or not. Under Submit for approval you can also see for which sandboxes approval is required. You may optionally provide comments in the Comments field, and when you are done, click Submit. Make sure you have saved before submitting, as all unsaved changes will be lost upon submission.
