Configure Storage (Service Configuration)

This topic provides procedures for configuring storage in the service configuration for a title.

For an overall introduction to the various elements of the service configuration, see Introducing Service Configuration.

Sections in this topic:

What is storage?

Storage provides a place and format for title-specific data.

Cloud storage is title-specific, and can be either global or segregated (by user, session, or device). You can write data in several formats, binary, JSON, or config, and share it across supported platforms.

Configure storage

You can manage paths for different storage types and upload files to global storage.

You can manage paths and access policies for these storage types:

To create a path for a storage type

  1. Select the Storage tile on the Service Configuration Tasks page for the product instance, or click Storage from the left-hand menu.
  2. On the Storage page, under Storage, click one of the storage types.
  3. Under Path Prefixes, click New.
  4. In the Add New Path Prefix dialog box, specify the new path prefix in the Path prefix field.
  5. To specify a read-only policy for this storage path, click Add policy and specify a principal item in the drop-down list or text box. To add more items, click the + symbol.
  6. To specify a full-access policy for this storage path, click Add policy and specify a principal item in the drop-down list or text box. To add more items, click the + symbol.
  7. Click the Add Path Prefix button to add the new path prefix to the list under Path Prefixes.

To upload files to global storage

  1. Select the Storage tile from the Service Configuration Tasks page or from the left-hand menu.
  2. On the Storage page, under Storage, click the folder icon for Global.
  3. To create a new folder other than the default folder (/…), click Create New Folder. Specify a folder name that is from 3 to 63 characters long and contains only letters, numbers, and underscores. If you create a folder that remains empty when the page is refreshed, that folder will be removed. To avoid having the newly created folder removed, ensure that you upload files into the folder. Otherwise, use the default folder to store files.
  4. To upload files, click Select Files to Upload and pick the files that you want to upload.
  5. Assign a file type (binary, JSON, or config) to the files that you want to upload, check the check boxes for the files, and click Upload File(s).

Note File names must contain only letters, numbers, underscores, dashes, and/or periods and must not end with a period, or the upload will fail.

  6. After you’re done uploading files, the default folder (/…) contains the full list of files and their containing folders.

Change storage configuration

Important

After a title passes Final Certification, storage for that title can no longer be changed or deleted.

You can make changes to an existing storage configuration, such as, how paths are configured for the different storage types.

To change a path for a storage type

  1. Select the Storage tile from the Service Configuration Tasks page.
  2. On the Storage page, under Storage, click one of the storage types.
  3. Under Path Prefixes, click the Edit icon for the path prefix that you want to make changes to.
  4. In the Edit Path Prefix dialog box, make the changes that you want. For example, you can change the path and specify new read-only or full-access policies for this storage path.
  5. When all of the options are the way that you want them, click the Save Path Prefix button.

Delete storage and storage configuration

You can delete files that have been stored in global storage, as well as delete paths in an existing storage configuration.
