Verifying Requirements for Your Development Computer

Hardware requirements

Our recommendation is that your development computer is a fast, modern computer with a fast hard drive.

The time it takes to deploy your game to your console can be negatively affected by the quality of the network hardware such as routers, switches, NIC, and cabling, and also by network latency, traffic, and hops. For best results, you should have your development computer and development console on the same gigabit Ethernet switch, preferably using Category 6 cables.

The Xbox One XDK requires 20 GB of free space to install successfully.

Software requirements

The Xbox One XDK that you load on your development computer is supported only by the following operating systems:

• Windows 7 64-bit with Service Pack 1, Windows hotfix 2533623, Windows hotfix 2588507, and Windows hotfix 2769790
• Windows 8 64-bit
• Windows 8.1 64-bit
• Windows 10 64-bit
• Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2012 are supported for build servers

Review the following list for additional restrictions and suggestions:

• The Xbox One XDK cannot be installed on a 32-bit version of Windows.
  
• You can only use C++ for the Game OS on the Xbox One dev kit.
  
• Update to the latest graphics drivers available for your Windows development computer and check for updates often to ensure that your remote tools run optimally.
