The Xbox One development tools in the XDK are also available as a separate Xbox One XDK Tools download.
Having the Xbox One development tools available as a separate download provides the ability to update development tools independently of the XDK you are developing against. This allows you to get critical tools bug fixes and updates while continuing to develop against your target XDK.
Note Xbox One XDK Tools includes most of the XDK development tools such as Xbox One Manager, PIX, and the command-line tools. Xbox One XDK Tools does not include the Kinect tools or the compiler toolchain.
To get the Xbox One XDK Tools, go to the downloads section of XGD.
The version number of the Xbox One XDK Tools must be the same or newer than the currently installed XDK.
The Tools XDK supports the 6 most recent XDKs.
Note The recovery version on your devkit must be greater than or equal to the XDK tools version you are using which in turn must be greater than or equal to the XDK version (headers, libs, era.xvd) you are using.
The Xbox One XDK Tools can be installed independent of an XDK install. This allows use of the XDK tools, such as Xbox One Manager, on machines without an XDK installed.
Note The tools from the XDK will only overwrite the version of the tools installed by the Xbox One XDK Tools if the XDK is a higher version than the installed Xbox One XDK Tools. If the XDK is a lower version, it will skip installing the tools because there is already a newer version present.
Uninstalling Xbox One XDK Tools will not restore the original version of the tools that shipped with the XDK. If you install an XDK, install a newer version of Xbox One XDK Tools, and then uninstall the newer Xbox One XDK Tools, you will need to uninstall and re-install your existing XDK to restore the original version of the tools that shipped with the XDK.
