What is a hero stat?

For each title, you have the opportunity to select up to a maximum of 20 of the title’s most representative user statistics to be showcased in a number of user experiences across the Xbox data platform. These custom-defined metrics are meant to highlight the progress of users, allow those users to compare with other players, and drive those users back into the game.

Each hero statistic includes a localizable display name, a particular sort order, and a specific sequence number to prioritize among the set of hero statistics.

Create a hero stat

To create a new Hero Stat

  1. Click on the Hero Stats & Game Progress pane on the Service Configuration page.
This should open a new Hero Stat entry screen if this is your first one. Otherwise, it will show a list of current Hero Stats for your product. If you have created Hero Stats previously, click New. The Add New Hero Stat window will pop up.
  2. Enter a new, localizable Display Name for the Hero Stat. This is the string that is displayed to the user, so make it readable.
  3. Under Stat Instance, click Select an Instance, which will open the Add Stat Instance window, and select a Stat Rule from the list to use as the Hero Stat. You can edit the Stat Instance by clicking the pencil icon next to its name. Ensure that it is a value that can be easily sorted, especially if it will have an Ordinal of 1.
For info about selecting a statistic instance, see Selecting a Statistic Instance (Service Configuration).

Note If you have not previously set up your Stat Instances, this dropdown list will be empty. Before you create any Hero Stats, configure your Stat Instances.

  4. Provide an Ordinal value for the statistic. The Ordinal value is the display priority, with the most important Hero Stat set to 1. You can’t have the same Ordinal value for two Hero Stats.
  5. Choose the Sort Order for the Hero Stat from the list. The choices are Ascending order and Descending order. Indicate Ascending if LOWER values are better, or Descending if HIGHER values are better.
  6. When you’ve finished configuring the Hero Stat, click Add New Hero Stat.

Note The Hero Stat with the Ordinal value of 1 always displays in the most prominent position on the screen, often with specific details. Therefore, you should ensure that this Hero Stat can be predictably and reliably sorted, and the best way to do that is to use a numeric value instead of a more complex value type.

Change a hero stat

To make changes to an existing hero stat:

  1. On the Hero Stats page, under Hero Stats, click the Edit icon for the hero stat that you want to make changes to.
  2. In the Edit Hero Stat dialog box, make the changes that you want.
  3. When all of the options are the way that you want them, click Save Hero Stat, and then click the Close button in the upper-right corner of the dialog box.

Delete a hero stat

To delete an existing hero stat:

  1. On the Hero Stats page, under Hero Stats, click the Delete icon for the hero stat that you want to delete.
  2. In the Delete Hero Stat dialog box, confirm the deletion by clicking Delete.

Important Deletion of a hero stat is a permanent action and can’t be undone or reversed.
