Grant Design-Time Access

Before users of Xbox Developer Portal (XDP) can access and work with your Xbox One content and information, they must be granted access to it.

Design-time access can be granted at any of several levels. Access can be granted for your entire XDP structure, for a specific product group within your structure, or for an individual product within a product group.

What is design-time access?

Design-time access permits a user to create, view, and update product information (as well as other XDP data and objects) by logging on using a browser. It includes both read and write access.

Design-time access may also include permission to upload and replace product builds, and to place them in sandboxes, the containers where builds are made available for run-time access.

What design-time access using the browser does not permit the user is access to products in sandboxes; this requires run-time access to the sandbox and logging in to a console.

Inheritance of design-time access

Each container in XDP inherits its access configuration from its parent container.

So for example, if you grant design-time access for your product group named Adventure Games to your Core access group, then the members of the Core access group will automatically also have design-time access to each product that is included in Adventure Games, and to each instance of each of the products in Adventure Games.

Grant access in XDP to your Xbox One content

Use one or more of the following procedures to grant permission for an access group to access a single product and its instances or an entire product group.

Important

To be granted design-time access to your content in XDP, a user must first:

  • Have an XDP user account.
  • Belong to at least one XDP access group that has access to the content.
  • Be assigned an XDP permission.

To grant design-time access to an entire product group

Important

Granting access to a product group provides access to every product and product instance that is part of that product group.

  1. On the XDP dashboard, click Manage, and then click Access Management in the drop-down menu.
    XDP displays the access management page for your publisher.
  2. On the left side, under Groups, click the name of the access group to which you want to add access.
    XDP displays the name of the selected access group in the center of the page, under the name of your publisher.
  3. Under the name of the access group displayed in the center of the page, click Products.
    XDP updates the web page to display the product groups to which the currently selected access group currently has access, if any. XDP also updates the right column to display the names of product groups.
  4. Confirm that the right column in the web page has Add product groups as a heading.
    If the heading says Add products, click By: Product under the search box. When XDP displays a menu, click Product Groups.
  5. Under Add product groups on the right side of the web page, click the green plus sign next to the name of the product group to which you want to provide access.
    After clicking the plus sign, XDP updates the list of product groups listed in the center of the window under the name of the access group that you selected earlier in this procedure. XDP automatically saves your changes and displays Saved at the bottom of the window when saving is complete.

To grant design-time access for a single product

  1. On the XDP dashboard, click Manage, and then click Access Management in the drop-down menu.
    XDP displays the access management page for your publisher.
  2. On the left side, under Groups, click the name of the access group to which you want to add access.
    XDP displays the name of the selected access group in the center of the page, under the name of your publisher.
  3. Under the name of the access group displayed in the center of the page, click Products.
    XDP updates the web page to display the product groups to which the currently selected access group currently has access, if any. XDP also updates the right column to display the names of product groups.
  4. Confirm that the right column in the web page has Add products as a heading.
    If the heading says Add product groups, click By: Product Group under the search box. When XDP displays a menu, click Products.
  5. Under Add products on the right side of the web page, click the green plus sign next to the name of the product to which you want to provide access.
