Grant Run-time Access

A sandbox is a hosting service where developers can perform development and test work. Developer, Test, and Release are examples of sandboxes.

Before users can run, play, and review the product instances in a sandbox, they must have access to that sandbox.

There are two basic ways to grant access to a content package in a sandbox: by user group and by device.

Note To be granted run-time access to a product still in development, the user must own at least one development account that they use to log into Xbox One.

Access by user group

Any Xbox Developer Portal (XDP) user who belongs to a user group that has been granted access to the sandbox can run the instance.

The user simply logs on by using the credentials of one of their development accounts.

Access by device

A device can also be granted access to a sandbox and the instances in it.

When you grant a device access to a sandbox, any user with device access has permissions to the sandbox. The device permissions override any permissions of the user. After you add a device, it has access to all content until it’s removed, regardless of who uses it.

Important Any user who has run-time access to a sandbox also has permission to run all of the product instances in that sandbox, even though the instances may fall into two or more otherwise unrelated groups.

To grant run-time access for all the product instances in a sandbox

1. Click Manage in the upper-left corner to open its drop-down menu, then click Sandboxes.
2. On the Sandboxes page, in the row for an individual sandbox, click the number in the Groups column.
   

   Note The names of sandboxes are always the publisher’s moniker in all capital letters, followed by a number. For example, CTSO.4.
   
   

3. On the Groups Access menu that XDP displays, select the access groups to which you want to grant run-time access. The selection is automatically saved, indicated in the lower-right corner of the screen by Saving. When saving is complete, the lower-right corner of the screen displays Saved.
4. After your selection is saved, click out of the pop-up to close the Groups Access menu.

   Note This permission level will be needed for access to Xbox Developer Insights (XDI). Please notify your account manager who will need to set an additional role not available externally to complete this access request.
