Getting Started with Xbox One Development
Welcome to the latest release of developer information for the Xbox One XDK, the next-generation video game and entertainment system from Microsoft. The Xbox One XDK consists of a console, which you set up as a dev kit, a Kinect sensor for Xbox One, an Xbox One controller, a set of development tools, and sample applications.
The main components of your development environment include:
- Xbox One console.
Use the Xbox One console to run the games that you develop. Learn to use the console to upload, execute, test, and debug your games.
- Development computer.
Run Visual Studio.NET and install the XDK on your development computer to develop and compile Xbox One games.
- Dev kit.
Develop your games by using the Xbox One dev kit mode on your Xbox One console. The Xbox One console has two modes, retail and dev kit. In retail mode, the console is in the state that any customer or user of an Xbox One console would use: you can play games and run apps as a user. In dev kit mode, you can develop software for the console.
