Using PIX to examine GPU resources

View resources and resource usage in PIX. This section covers the Resource Browser, GPU state, and the Mesh Viewer.

In this section

PIX Resource Browser
Describes the Resource Browser, an important component of PIX that can be used to display render targets, textures, depth and stencil buffers, shader code, and other active resources.

PIX GPU State
In PIX, the GPU D3D State tab shows information about the Direct3D state for each draw call, and the GPU State tab shows information about the general GPU state.

PIX Mesh Viewer
You can use the Mesh Viewer in PIX to compare PIX’s rendering to expected output and quickly locate discrepancies. For example, you can spot vertices that are dramatically out of bounds. Variances in density or shape of the overall mesh can be clues to content problems or problems with the rendering setup for the associated draw call.
