Create and Manage Products

This topic provides specific procedures for creating and working with products in the Xbox Developer Portal (XDP). For descriptions of the types of products that you can create in XDP, see XDP Content: Product Types.

For an overview of the various design-time content containers-product groups, products, product instances, and content packages-see XDP Content: Storage and Access.

Sections in this topic:

Create a product

After creating your new product, XDP creates the first instance of your product and automatically displays the web page for the product.

For some types of products, you must choose whether to create an exclusive app or a shared app. An exclusive app has exclusive access to a majority of the resources on a console; traditional game titles are exclusive apps, and the console executes these one at a time. A shared app has fewer resources available, and multiple shared apps may run simultaneously on a console.

For more information about apps on Xbox One, see “App Types” in “Application Model” in the documentation for the Xbox One XDK or the Xbox One Application Development Kit, depending on your access. This topic is available in the Xbox One XDK Documentation.

To create a new product

  1. Click Add New Product on the information page for the product group.
Doing so displays the Product Setup page.
  2. On the Product Setup page, enter a name for your new product in the Product Name field.
The name you enter in the Product Name field is not exposed to Xbox One customers. It is only visible in XDP.
  3. Specify the type of product to create by selecting a type from the drop-down list under Product Type.
    The default type is Game.
  4. Choose the sandbox that you want your first product instance to be in under Sandbox.
  5. Specify the target platform(s) by selecting them from the list under Platform Type. You can choose from Xbox One, Threshold PC, and Windows Mobile. Threshold PC and Windows Mobile correspond to Windows 10 PC and Windows 10 Mobile, respectively.
  6. If Resource Access is displayed, select either Shared Resource Access or Exclusive Resource Access as appropriate for your product.
These two choices correspond to shared app and exclusive app, described earlier in this topic.
  7. Under What is this product intended for?, select either Physical and digital media or Digital media only.
  8. Click Create Product to create your product.
During creation, XDP displays Saving at the bottom of the browser window. When creation is complete, XDP displays Done.

For your new product, you can begin providing the artwork and metadata for both the product and its first product instance, creating additional product instances (for use in other sandboxes), and completing the product instance or instances by setting up the service configuration and uploading the necessary file or files to each instance.

For detailed instructions about working with product instances and the content packages that they contain, see Create and Manage Product Instances and Create and Manage Content Packages.

To grant users access to your product or product groups, see Grant Design-Time Access or Grant Run-time Access.

Look Up a Publisher ID

Use these steps to determine the publisher ID for your product. This is the ID for the account you have access to, and may not be the Publisher ID for your parent account. If you need the Publisher ID that the product will list as it’s publisher on xbox.com, contact your account management team.

To look up a Publisher ID

  1. Select your studio/account (publisher name) in XDP.
  2. You can find the Publisher ID at the end of the URL.

Change the name of a product

After you change the name of your product, the new name will appear on the main information page for the product, in the upper-left corner.

To change the name of a product

  1. On the main information page for the product, under Product Configuration, click Product Setup, or click Product Setup from the left-hand navigation menu.
  2. On the next page, click Product Details and make the changes you want in the Product Name field.
When the name is the way that you want it, click the green Save button at the bottom.

Add, change, or delete genres for a product

Each product automatically inherits the default genre specified for its product group, but you can make subsequent changes in that configuration.

To modify the designated genres for a product

  1. On the main information page for the product, under Catalog & Artwork, click Genre Setup, or click Genre Setup from the left-hand navigation menu.
XDP displays the Genre Setup page for your product.
  2. Select each genre that you want to include and clear the check box for any genre that you want to exclude.
  3. Click Save in the upper-right corner of the page.
XDP returns you to the main page for your product.

Delete a product

At this time, XDP does not support deletion of a product.
